Likewise all fruit trees setat the new moon blossom, but never bear fruit; while all others setthree days before the full bear abundantly. And in pruning treesthe same effect takes place, for a tree pruned at the new moon willshoot forth branches, but unbearable, and if pruned at the full, theywill be prolific. This curious experiment has been tried by the Mcrcurii and se-veral other philosophers ; it at once decides the moon to possess themost powerful influence over sublunary affairs, and whether relativeto the animal or vegetable creation, or to the world at large, still isthis influence perceptible to every searcher after Natures secrets, andthe discoveiy thereof will repay the curious inquirer, r>ic ILLUSTRATION, No. LXXXlll.
