mM<-m^tbik&ititmiA Rohffi Kir TEMPORARY INTERMENT OF LINCOLN BODIES IN 1900— While the Lincoln Monument was under reconstruction at this time, the bodies of Mr.Lincoln and his family were given temporary interment in a vault a short distancenortheast of the Monument. On this occasion, March 10, 1900, a group of prominentcitizens gathered for the simple rites. The gentleman in left foreground with hatin hand is General Alfred Orendorff, while at right, with hand to his face, is Hon.Ben F. Caldwell, then Congressman from this district. One of those in group in rightforeground is Hon. H. W. Clendenin, editor of the Illinois State Register, facingGeneral Orendorff.

It isthought that the only survivor of this crew ofworkmen is John W. Whitney of 1103 S. 16thStreet—who identifies the men as follows. Her-man Gaa, John M. Long, George Seroggins JohnP Thompson and—at extreme right—John W.Whitney. Any further information in thisregard will be appreciated.
