English: Bookplate of James Brydges, 3rd Duke of Chandos (1731-1789), styled Viscount Wilton from birth until 1744 and Marquess of Carnarvon from 1744 to 1771, the only son of Henry Brydges, 2nd Duke of Chandos, and Lady Mary Bruce, daughter of Charles Bruce, 3rd Earl of Ailesbury. Arms of Brydges quartering Bruce, with inescutcheon of pretence: Sable, three pheons argent (Nicol) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, pp.732-3 "Nicholl of Glamorgan"), for his first wife Margaret Nicol (1736–1768), daughter (and heiress) of John Nicol (d.1747) of "Colney Hatch and Minchington" (w:Minchington Hall, in the parish of Southgate, Middlesex (adjacent to Colney Hatch, in the parish of Fryern-Barnet, Middlesex)).
