We shall not find anyoccasion against this Daniel, except we findit against him concerning the law of his God. 6 Then these presidents and princes assem-bled together to the king, and said thus untohim, King Darius, live for ever. 7 All the presidents of the kingdom, thegovernors, and the princes, the counsellors,and the captains, have consulted together toestablish a royal statute, and to make a firmdecree, that whosoever shall ask a petitionof anj^ god or man for thirty days, save ofthee, O king, he shall be cast into the deriof lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the decree, andsign the writing, that it be not changed,according to the law of the Medes andPersians, which altereth not. 9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writingand the decree. 10 ^ Now when Daniel knew that the writ-ing was signed, he w-ent into his house; and

DANIEL Daniels vision of his windows being open in his chamber to-ward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his kneesthree times a-day, and prayed, and_ gavethanks before his God, as he did aforetime. 11 Then these men assembled, and foundDaniel praying and making supplicationbefore his God. 12 Then they came near, and spake beforethe king concerning the kings decree; Hastthou not signed a decree, that every manthat shall ask a petition of any god or manwithin thirty days, save of thee, O king, shallbe cast into the den of lions? The kinganswered and said, The thing is true, accord-ing to the law of the Medes and Persians,which altereth not. 13 Then answered they, and said before theking, That Daniel, which is of the childrenof the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee,O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed,but maketh his petition three times a-day. 14 Then the king, when he heard thesewords, was sore displeased with himself, andset his heart on Daniel
