Summary

[edit]
Description
English: These images, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 13 June and 18 July 2021, allow us to observe the areas damaged following the catastrophic floods that hit the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany). Disastrous storms hit several Northern European countries with hundreds of casualties and missing people in Germany and Belgium. The West of Germany, over which these Sentinel-2 images were acquired, recorded one of the worst weather-related disasters since World War II. The Rapid Mapping component of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service has been activated and 50 maps providing a delineation of the areas affected by flooding and flood damage assessments over 20 Areas of Interest, have been delivered at the time of this publication, with 13 more in production.
