The Library is over the threerooms for the Professors in the south wing. The two LiteraryLecture Rooms on the first floor are directly over those on theground-floor. The Report recommending the design of Mr Champneyswas confirmed by the Senate 2 November, 1876, and the prepara-tion of the working drawings was commenced at once. This change entailed aslight increase in the size of some of the rooms; and the archi-tect further suggested an increase in the ornamentation of thesouth front. In consequence, the lowest tender, that of MrLoveday, of Kibworth, Leicestershire, amounted to £11,977, or^454 in excess of Mr Champneys estimate2. The Senate,however, made no objection to the increased outlay, and it wasagreed that the contract should be sealed 22 March, 18773.The building was commenced shortly afterwards, and wasready for use in the Michaelmas Term, 1879.
