The goddcss Narasimhi found at Badasai has eight hands, in her three right hands she holdsghanta (bell), khadga (sword) and mace, thefourth gives protection, in her left three sheholds vajra, shield, and pa^a (noose); and thefourth gives blessing. (Fig. 32). This goddessis one of the eight great Caktis. She is describedin the Markandeya Purana as the female energyof God in his Nrsiihha (man-lion) form. She isfurther represented with a figure of Varahibelow the right hand, and a small figure ofBrahmi below the left hand. Gauri. A beautiful figure of Gauri is found in the Maninage^vara. She has four hands of which however two are broken. (Fig. 33). Mahis- There is an image of goddess Mahisamardini Mahaiaksmi ^^ Hariharapur, the former capital of Mayura- bhanja.
