nd inthe whole of Orissa. Figures of Tirthaijkarasand those of many Ganadharas, Purva-dharas, Cravaka and Cravikas have been dis-covered imder the earth. Among these we findthe figures of Jina either absorbed in meditation(Dhyana) in a sitting posture or standing-naked. (Fig. 23A). The fine sculpturing ofthese figures i^roduces a striking impression.They are of beautiful chlorite stone and rangefrom 2 to 6 feet in height. If this place weresystematically explored, it is possible that manymore figures and even ruins of ancient templesmight be discovered. Many Jaina figures liave lately been foundat Khiching as well as at places close to Adipurthe ancient capital of Mayurabhanja. We areof opinion that they were made at the time ofthe Kusumba Ksatriyas.-- INFLUENCE OF BUDDHISM There arc evidences of Buddhistic influencein various parts of Mayurabhanja. It is difficultto ascertain at what period Bucklhism wasoriginally introduced here. It is, however, Sec Iiiit III of llio liitruductioii.
