Cover them loosely with THE AQUARIUM, OCTOBER, 1895. m the same material and fill the vesselabout half full with water and set allin a dark cool closet or cellar. After the leaves begin to show abovethe surface, place them where tbey willget a moderate light, and when theplants assume a healthy green color, tothe lightest possible situation in thewindow. After the flower spikes begin toshow, the plants should not lack water.

Dutch Hyacinths. Chinese Narcissus and Daffodils growbest in sand or pebbles, or both mixed. Take any moderately sized deep bowlthat holds water, fill this half full withsand orpebbles and pour sufficient waterover this to just cover the pebbles, thenplace the bulbs on top of these, pushingthem down a little with gentle force sothat the bulbs will rest about half aninch deep in water. This done, thebowl is set in the lightest place in awindow at once ; if this be a sunnywindow, so much the better. Keep adding water to the bowl from day today as it is absorbed.
