ghts, under a low pointed arch.The mullions have arched heads, but are destitute of cuspings.Beneath each window was formerly a doorway; the nortbernmosthas been walled up; the southern still remains, and is theprincipal entrance to the Church ; it is covered with a pent-house,and the original workmanship is hidden by a frontispiece ofcarved woodwork. On a panel above the arch is the followinginscription:— WorsHp tlie Lord in tlie beauty of holiness.The original finish of the elevation has been destroyed, andbattlements of a bad style substituted. Above the centre rises amean turret covered with cement, and finished with a cupola. Thesouth side of the Church contains three windows of threelights each; the mullions resemble those of the west front, andhave equally suffered from the hands of repairers. The Parish Church. 39 west is a low doorway with a semicircular arch enclosed in a heavyDoric frontispiece with the date of its erection, 1633 * This^rontj like the west, is covered with cement, and finished with amodern embattled parapet. The northern side has four windowsof the same character and description as the others. The easternend of the Church has four windows, all of which have been restoredand filled with stained glass.f To understand the peculiar arrange-ment of this Church it should be borne in mind that the portionnorthward of the arches running along the centre was formerly theNuns Choir. This was added to the Parish Church for the useof the inmates of the adjoining Convent, probably about the year) 216, and was separated from it by a continuous screen until thedissolution of the Convent at the Reformation, when this screenwas taken down, and the whole space thrown into the ParishChurch.
