n for this hernia. * Verhegens reputed discovery of the difference between the seats of inguinal and femoral rupture introduceda new era in the annals of hernial surgery. Alius huic vicinus locus est, ubi fiunt herniae periculosse et ssepe lethales;scilicet, ubi vens et arteriee iliacae tendunt ad crura. Verhegen adds, adopting Parks explanation of the mode inwhich a rupture is formed, Siquidem peritonseo paululum delato, aut quod rarissime contingit, rupto, descendet exignapars intestini ilii, but proceeds in advance of his predecessor, ibidemque partibus vicznis accrescit, ex qua accrescen-tia vidi particulam intestini ilii omnino occlusam, et segrum miserere marientem, etc. In this passage there appears to be a dim recognition of a seat of stricture, which includes the neck of the sac,and parts contiguous to it, and of these parts the ligament of Fallopius or Poupart was supposed to be the principal.—Gay on Femoral Rupture, p. 56. t Cooper, Plate VI, Part II.
