The deeji perineal fascia (Campers ligament, triangular ligament)is situated beliind the root of the penis, and is firmly stretched acrosshetween the ramus of the os pubis and ischium of each side, so as toconstitute a strong septum of defence to the outlet of the pelvis. Atits inferior border it divides into two layers, one of which is continuedforwards, and is continuous with the supeificial perineal fascia; whilethe other is prolonged backwards to the rectum, and, joining with theanal fascia, assists in supporting the extremity of that intestine. Thedeep perineal fascia is composed of two layers, which are separatedfrom each other by several important parts, and traversed by themembranous portion of the urethra. The anterior layer is nearlyplane in its direction, and sends a sheath forwards around the anteriortermination of the membranous m-ethra to be attached to the posterior Fig. 116.*
