e former appro-priation, together with that portion of the first years appropriationfrom the national funds which could be used for building purposes,was employed in the construction of a commodious office and laboratorybuilding for the purposes of the station. The same legislature alsoauthorized the sale of the outlying experimental farms, while thecentral experiment farm at the college was set aside by the trusteesfor the use of the experiment station. With an appropriation of$7,000 in 1889 and the addition of some funds arising from the fertilizeranalysis, the farm buildings were entirely remodeled and a small dairyhouse was erected. Subsequently a small brick boiler house was builtto provide steam for heating and power for all the station buildings,and a small building for the accommodation of a respiration calorim-eter for investigations on the nutrition of animals was erected in 1899,at a cost of about $4,000.
