station is connected has been one of the mostsuccessful of its class in the country. The Mississippi Agricultural Experiment Station was organizedunder the act of Congress as a department of the Mississippi Agricul-tural and Mechanical College in accordance with the act of legislatureof January 30,1888. Prof. S. M. Tracy was the first director, servinguntil April 20, 1897, when he was succeeded by the present incumbent. ORGANIZATION. The station is under the management of the board of trustees, ofwhich the governor of the State is ex officio chairman, and the presi-dent of the college. Immediate oversight of the station is intrustedto a governing board, consisting of the local trustee, the presidentof the college, and the director of the station. The business of thestation is directly managed by the president and director, subject tothe approval of the board of trustees at their annual meeting in June. 1 Deceased. U. S.
