Thecowpea has received especial attention. It has been studied withreference to its value for green manuring and for hay, and tests havebeen made of the value of the hay for fattening different kinds of livestock. Studies have been made of the adaptability to the State ofdifferent crops which will enable farmers to grow more live stock. Astudy has been made of the profit of raising beef on cotton seed andcotton-seed products, and of the cheapest and best methods of produ-cing pork. A study has also been made of the effect of the variousforage crops experimented with on worn cotton soils. Tests have beenmade of various rotations of crops to determine those best suited forimproving such soils without the use of commercial fertilizers.
