Description	English: With this map, using an unusual projection of the dual-hemisphere world, the mapmaker here enhances the apparent importance of the British Empire. "The English Commonwealth was (...) led by the opening of the seas in the sixteenth century to assume responsibilities destined to become greater than any which have yet rested on the shoulders of a single state. Hardly any commensurate area in the world is capable of carrying a larger population that the British Isles, because, as may be seen from Plate IX, their position makes them for purposes of commerce and manufacture the centre of the world".
