WATER. SCIKNCE, 1?IRE. FIGURES ON MACHINERY HAI.E. (M. A. lVaage?l. machine shop 146 x 250 feet. The method of construction of thebuilding for machinery is somewhat peculiar. The building isspanned by three arched trusses, and the interior presents theappearance of three railroad train houses placed side by side, sur-rounded on all sides by a 50-foot gallery. Each of these threedivisions of the building, spanned by its own series of trusses, isconstructed separately, with the intention that they may be takendown after the close of the Exposition and sold for use as railway MACHi^KKY. 141 train houses. The salvage will consequently be very profitable.

GROUP ON COIvONNADE. Between Agriculture and Machiiiery Buildings. (M. A. IVaagen.) Running from end to end of each of these three long naves is an 142 MACHINERY. elevated travelllnor crane. Durino- the installation of exhibits thesecranes were used for the purpose of carrying into place the enormousweights of machinery used during construction as well as for pur-poses of exhibit. When the Exposition opened platforms wereplaced upon the cranes, and visitors may now view from this elevatedstation the entire array of wonders upon the floor below. Thesame posts which support these travelling bridges also carry theshafting which conveys power from the power plant to the machinesthroughout the building. In the main structure steam power isused, and the power-house which supplies it adjoins the south sideof the building.
