-mercial life of the great city.A-t a point one mile west of thelake the river is formed by twobranches, one flowing from thenorth and one from the south.The sources of these twostreams are a few miles to thenorthwest and the southwest.Thus is explained the divisionsinto which the city has natur-ally fallen, the West side, theNorth side and the South side.The commercial interests ofthe city then centre in thepocket formed by the river,and here are the great retailstores, the wholesale stores,the banks, and the offices. Butin each of the divisions arelarge business enterprises, andin each of them may be foundmagnificent homes and largequarters where the best andmost intelligent of the citizensdwell. So that while there issome sectional jealousy, ormore properly pride, amongthe residents of the differentdivisions, each loyal to the sideon which he lives, there is noexclusiveness, and on each sideof the city are hosts ot attrac-tions w^orthy the attention of the stranger within the city.
