ts. Toward the north, abridge over the Lagoon connects It with the Fisheries Building,which in Its nature is semi-governmental in character. The southhalf of the Government Building Is devoted to the exhibits of thePost Office Department, Treasury Department, War Departmentand Department ot Agriculture. The north half is devoted to theexhibits of the Fisheries Commission, Smithsonian Institution and 458 UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. Interior Department. The State Department exhibit extends fromthe rotunda to the east end, and that of the Department of Justicefrom the rotunda to the west end of the buildino-. The second of the great structures erected by the United StatesGovernment, and one which to many is of far greater interest thanalmost anything else on the grounds, is the model Batde-ship forthe exhibit of the United States Naval Department. This is astructure which, to all outward appearances, is a faithful, full-sizedmodel of one of the new coast-line battle-ships. It is erected on

Water surrounds the Iron-cladsides of brick, and the structure has every appearance of beingmoored to a wharf. Upon Its decks are all the fittings that belongto the actual ship, such as guns, turrets, torpedo tubes, with boats,anchors, cables, awnings, etc. Officers, seamen, mechanics and ma-rines are detailed by the Navy Department during the Exposition,and the discipline and mode of life on our naval vessels are com-pletely shown. The crew gives certain drills, especially boat,torpedo and gun drills, as In a vessel of war. The dimensions ofthe structure are the same as those of the actual battle-ship ofwhich It is a model ; 348 feet In length, 69 feet and 3 Inches width
