Nowhere among all the many imposing and beautiful displays madeby Germany is the national character for solidity and strength moreimpressively brought out than in the Miiung Building. The oneexhibit that holds the eye from every part of the building, the onethat elicits general and hearty admiration, is the magnificent ironand steel trophy exhibit of the Stumm works, second only to Kruppin size. Structural shape, beams, girders, bars, rails, pipes, rods, wire and,bands are built up to a height of nearly one hundred feet likebranching trees, and assume figures as bewildering in ramificationas they are graceful in outline. The entrance portal is formed of 24S MINES. split pipes many feet high, with life-sized bronze allegorical figuresat the summit, and just beneath the word STUMM in letters ofgilded pipe. Entering the space we are confronted by a beauti-ful ornamental fountain embellished with figures in bronze of metal-workers and metal-working appliances, such as converters androlls. Palms and other green plants contribute to the attractivenessof this centre piece. Lofty obelisks constructed entirely of polishedsections of girders and rails in continually diminishing sizes markthe corners.
