It has the appearance of a perfectly furnishedresidence in every detail, which has been temporarily vacated bythe owners in order to visit the Worlds Fair. To the extreme left,in front of the building, is a great mirror, upon which is inscribedin letters of silver the names of all the Rockford furniture compa-nies. This is the only place on the lower floor where the name of ii6 MANUFACTURES. an individual concern appears. None of the different pieces offurniture are marked, the idea being to bury personal identity andadvertise Rockford as a whole. The second floor h reached by a handsome stairway, leadingfrom the hall. This entire floor is used as a store-room, the differentco;npanies each having here pieces of furniture on exhibit withtheir cards attached.
