From a position down at the sides thearms during the inspiration may be raised slowly, withthe palms up and the arms back and extended, comingtogether above the head just as the inspiratory act has beencompleted. The breath should be held for ten seconds andthen let out slowly through the mouth, the arms at the sametime being brought down in front until they reach their firstposition as the last bit of air is forced out. This should berepeated five or ten times. The best time for the exercises is in the morning be-fore breakfast. They should be taken in a room well ven-tilated, but free from draught, in which the windows aredown from the top and open from the bottom. Loose-fitting clothing or the night dress should be worn, the feetbeing bare or stockinged to allow the greatest movement.Before beginning the exercise the woman should evacuateher bladder, clear her nose of all mucus and drink a glassof water that is not too cold.

With the heels together she should rise slowlyon the balls of her feet, keeping the knees straight, andshould then lower the body steadily until the heels touchthe ground. She should repeat these exercises from fifteento twenty, or even to fifty times. Twisting Exercises.—In the same position as in thefirst exercise, turn the body first to one side and then tothe other, rubbing the hands across the abdomen at thesame time, and keeping the head in line with the body.This may be repeated from five to ten or fifty times.
