Not lessthan forty exist perhaps at the present time, for as soonas a morsel proves big enough to be divided, divided it is.Here we have two fine plants and a healthy young fragment. To describe the flower is an ungrateful task. Tints soexquisitely soft are not to be defined in words ; it is pleasanterto sum them up in the phrase all golden, as I did formerly,when there was no need for precision. But here I must bespecific, and in truth Cypripedium insigne Sanderae is not tobe so described. The dorsal, beautifully waved, has a broadwhite margin and a cloud of the tenderest grass-green in themidst, covered with a soft green network.
