Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1928, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Magney & Tusler to house the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis. The building features an entryway with a decorative stone surround with a cornice, dentils, brackets, and a cartouche with the club’s name, arched recessed window bays, decorative corbeling at the parapet, a tower with a red tile roof at the west end of the building, a small addition on the east end of the building, a banded brick base, and two stacked loggias on the north side of the building overlooking Loring Park, both of which feature multiple arched openings, with the lower loggia featuring octagonal corinthian columns, and the upper loggia featuring decorative balconies with balustrades at each opening. One of the most notable events to occur in the building was on November 30, 1996, when the artist Tiny Tim gave a performance at a gala being hosted inside the building. The performer, whom was suffering from health problems at the time, collapsed during the song "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" due to cardiac arrest, and never regained consciousness, being declared dead later that night. The building continues to house the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, as well as host community and arts events on occasion.
