Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Withies Inn, Withies Lane - geograph.org.uk - 1460528.jpg |
English: The Withies Inn, Withies Lane Tucked away in one of Surrey's leafy lanes is this popular and upmarket public house, with restaurant. Although you are more likely to meet a retired stockbroker here, than a farm labourer, the pub has retained most features of the traditional English country pub. It dates from the 16th century, has low ceilings, an attractive beer garden, window boxes full of flowers and seems to have come straight off the top of a chocolate box. Perhaps its biggest claim to fame is that, many decades ago, it once turned away the famous American crooner Bing Crosby, or at least the Telegraph claimed so in an article on British pubs. Maybe the pub felt it couldn't compete with Holiday Inn?
The pub has its own website:- http://www.thewithiesinn.com/ |
