Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The White Horse bookshop, High Street, Marlborough These fearsome-looking warriors are here to support the launch of a new book co-written by a local author, Roger Day, and Ian Gardner. The book is called 'Tonight We Die As Men' and is the story of the exploits of the 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a part of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. The better-known Easy Company of the 2nd Battalion of the same regiment has been made famous by the television series 'Band of Brothers' and the purpose of the book is to draw attention to the no-less heroic part played in the D-Day invasion by the 3rd Battalion. Ironically perhaps these gentlemen are part of a re-enactment group based on Easy Company. There is more about the book on the Ramsbury at War website, which is an excellent resource on the part played by this corner of Wiltshire in the successful conclusion of the second world war http://www.ramsburyatwar.com/ Note that the site has an evocative sound clip when you open it.
