Description
English: The Welsh Oak, Pontymister Located on Risca Road (B4591) close to the eastern edge of Pontymister.

The Welsh Oak was the final meeting place of John Frost, Zephaniah Williams and William Jones, all members of the Chartist movement in South Wales in the 1830s.

Each man led a column of men who, after spending the night here in November 1839, marched to the Westgate Hotel, Newport, where they were met by soldiers and battle ensued. An estimated 22 Chartists were killed.
