| Description |
English: The Wasteland The site of Monktonhall Colliery, the last deep mine in the Lothians. New in 1953, it was plagued by flooding and closed in 1998. The Gazetteer for Scotland [www.geo.ed.ac.uk] notes that the site has no tourist rating; there were, however, three buzzards soaring there, no doubt hunting for rabbits, which were plentiful. |
