varying the number of corpuscles, temperature and pressure; (c) The alterations, if any, caused by the addition of certain salts and other substances;and, ultimately, (d) To devise a viscosimeter for clinical purposes which would give reliable results with a very small quantity of blood. A general idea of the actual arrangement of the various parts of theapparatus employed is most easily obtained from the photographic represen-tation given in fig. 1 (a and b). In order to study the effect of temperature, four thermostats were main-tained at temperatures of approximately 32° C, 36° C, 40° C, and 44° C.respectively.
