Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Village of Cramond across the River Almond. Now within the City of Edinburgh, Cramond has an ancient history. Caer Almond meaning "Fort on the Almond" refers to a Roman fort built in AD 142 but only recently excavated. From early times there were many mills on the river and in the 17th and 18th centuries Cramond was an important port. The famous Carron Company owned mills here. In the building to the right centre of the photo there is a very fine museum manned by volunteers in the summer with a wealth of information about the village.
