October, 1975 219 of medial claw; directed forward. An-other small spine occurs ventrally,slightly behind inner spine; directedantero-ventrally. Anal Segment (Plate, Fig. 6). Anal segment tri-lobed, with dorsalanal lobe inflated and having distinctinflated pad; devoid of setae. Anallobes and pads ovate, with severalsmall setae forming a fringe alonginner lateral margin of each lobe.Short, strong, introrse setae occur oneach side of narrow, closed septulawhich extends about half the lengthof the segment (similar to Syndesuscornutus). Mandibles and the stridulatingorgans are shown in Figures 7-8. Discussion In the initial stages of this studydifficulties were encountered in dis-tinguishing difierences between larvaeof Scarabaeidae because the existingkey describing the Lucanidae larvaeof AustraHa lacks description of speci-fic key structures.
