Introduction From the earliest times in the his-tory of our state fossils have beenknown to occur in the shore line rocksat the locality known variously asnear Mordialloc, or near Moorab-bin, or near Brighton, or as it isbetter known and more accuratelyplaced at a later date as Beaumaris.The cHffs of Beaumaris are very richin fossil remains and have been avery popular hunting ground for manyyears. It usedto be a favourite boast of my own thatI never paid a visit to this localitywithout finding at least one tooth, butfor many reasons the crop nowadaysis not so great as in former times forone had only to wade along the shore-line at low tide to be rewarded withmany specimens. Then by more care-ful search and investigation the actualbed from which all these specimenshad been washed and distributed couldbe opened out and carefully examined,and making a rough calculation onseveral occasions it usually happenedthat at least one tooth would turn outfrom each square foot examined.
