5CaC« ^ . 5 mm- Trogonoptera brookiana trogon(opposite clasper) 24 Vict. Nat. Vol. 93 A Nest Constructed by Wild Pigs by J. COVACEVICH* In June, 1972, at Amos Bay ap-proximately 19 miles south of Cook-town, northeastern Queensland, acarefully constructed nest of bladygrass was found accidentally. This nestis illustrated in Plate la. Amos Baywhere the nest was found is a fairlymoist area of open Eucalyptus forestwith a dense Blady Grass (Imperatacylindrica) cover. The nest was ap-proximately 6 ft. long, 4 ft. 6 in. wideand 2 ft. deep along the mid line. Itcontained a well-formed chamber witha diameter of approximately 10 ins.and a length of 4 ft. The nest wasvery carefully constructed with eachsheaf of grass placed meticulously forbest support and shelter and yet tokeep the chamber clear. A search inthe adjoining area for the mammalswhich might have constructed the nestor be using it was unsuccessful, as wasthe search for animal traces (faeces,tracks) over a much wider area.
