at some of theseals remain at the Island throughoutthe year; this should be verified bynaturalists. Swamp Harriers Swamp harriers were again thedominant predators of the rabbits, andat least six pairs were in residence,and two occupied nests with 3 well-feathered young in each were found. One nest was extended as a feedingplatform, and was 8 yards long and2 yards wide. In this area were over150 rabbit carcases. Another moundof rabbit carcases, probably a feedingplatform, contained 50 carcasesheaped up in the bracken. May, 1968 Most of the carcases had not beeneaten, the animals having been killedand left. These rabbits were invariablyextremely thin. There was at least one extremelypale harrier, a field description read-ing—white on all undersurfaceexcept the throat, neck, wing tip andtail tip. The upper surface of thewing primaries and secondaries arealso whitish. It is interesting to note that asimilarly coloured bird has been seenat Mud Island in Port Phillip Bay forseveral years.
