gamy. The Koran says, If ye fear thatye shall not act with equity towards orphans of thefemale sex, take in marriage of such other women asplease you, two, or three, or four, and not more. And yet it appears that what was intended as a favorto unfortunate females proved the source of theirundoing; though the Prophet unquestionably hadrespect for women, as he owed his success largely toone of his wives. The purely indoor dress issimple, yet rich, in silk, velvet, and satin—an under-garment of light gauze material with full and longsleeves; then bright-colored, baggy trousers of thezouave pattern more or less concealed by the gold-embroidered robe or outer garment, which is open infront and has slits at the sides of the wide, flowing-sleeves. Such a costume is certainly a good one froma sanitary point of view. The zouave sleeveless vestis worn whenever weather or taste calls for it, and thehead-dress is usually a velvet cap decorated with tinseland jewelry. The neck and arms are literally loadedwith silver and gold bracelets and necklaces set withcostly stones. The feet are encased in the daintyOriental slippers with upturned pointed toes. Th
