[edit]DescriptionThe Treasury, Monastery of Na’akuto La’ab (3365030367).jpg |
I deliberately processed this photo gently to capture the contrast between the bright sunlight entering the cave on the right and the parts of the cave that are still in shadow. The Church of the Monastery of Na’akuto La’ab is on the left. To the right is a corner of another building that is actually much larger than it appears here. Take a look at it in the panoramic shot of the monastery a few photos back. It is one of the most imposing buildings in the complex. Its walls are constructed of finely shaped and well-fitted stone blocks held together by mortar. This image shows how little clearance there is between the tops of the building and the cave roof. In fact, the church's facade actually meets the cave's ceiling. While it looks like the cave that shelters the monastery ends here, the rock wall in the background only marks the limits of the widest part of the cave. If you look at the panoramic photo, you'll see that walls and other structures continue well past this point, still protected by the cave. Soon, the priest will open the white cabinet embellished with the red "z," and show us what it contains. |
