Title |
The Town Crier, v.12, no.23, Jun. 9, 1917 |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Page 4 article "Slack" discusses the results of the selective draft in Seattle and Washington. Photo of Marjorie Miller's violin pupils at the Cornish School (later Cornish College of the Arts). Left to right: Massa Furuya, James Wiley, Lillie Kulman, Vernon Hedstrom, Mamie Lampe, Clifford Day, Catherine Lashley. The age of these pupils shows that in its early years, despite the stellar talent it had already attracted to its faculty, the Cornish School mainly had children rather than young adults as its students. Also: Massa Furuya, at left, was presumably the daughter of Masajiro Furuya, the leading businessman in Seattle's Japanese community at that time. |
