Title
The Torrens Weir in flood
Description

The Torrens Weir was officially opened on 21 July 1881. An earlier timber weir built in 1862 by prison labour had been destroyed by floods in 1872 ; the sluice gates were added in 1929.

The new weir transformed the Torrens Valley from a string of muddy waterholes into a picturesque lake, one of the outstanding features of the Adelaide Parklands. - Microfiche incorrectly states this is Bundaleer Channel and the date is 19 August. Negative is dated 19 July 1917, not August. (G Brooks) - See also GN01320A and 1956.
