accompanying reproductions from a photograph.An increased cooling effect on the air in the tanks wasobtained by hanging the tanks below the side I-beams. Infact they were placed so low that it was not advisable toput the customary drain cocks underneath, so to permitdrainage the tanks were hung with one end about 3 ins. except the short ones are run in the space over the steelplates and underneath the wood floor. The conduits werebuilt in this space during the construction of the car andare held in position in such a manner that vibration is im-possible. Those terminating in the jumper receptacles onthe end of the car and those leading to the master controllerdrop down through the steel plate just behind the end sills,while those leading to the pump and controller parts arecarried through the plate immediately over the apparatusto which they connect. By assembling these, all con-necting cables were materially shortened.The loricated conduits between the con-troller apparatus are held in by wrought-iron straps bolted to the steel floorabove. Although assembled compactly, thecontroller apparatus is so placed that anypart of it may be easily reached for in-spection or repair. The limit switchesare mounted near the ends of the re-verser, where they are readily accessi-ble.
