Three convertible cars of the Brill type built by the Ameri-can Car Company, of St. Louis, were recently delivered to theAlbuquerque Traction Company, of Albuquerque, N. Mex.This is the first lot of cars of this type ordered by the com-pany. They have now been in operation several weeks, andare reported to be giving entire satisfaction. Albuquerque ison the main line of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroadand is nearly at the center of the State. It has a population ofj 0,000. INTERIOR UF ALBUQUERQUE CONVERTIBLE CAR and the flexible metal panels into pockets in the side roofs iswell known, and therefore need not be described. Bracketsconnecting the backs of the seats with the posts serve as grab-handles, and are arranged to swivel when the seat backs arestepped over. The guard-rails are arranged to slide uponguides inside the posts, and may be seen in the illustration ofthe interior. The cars are seated for thirty-six passengers andhave a large amount of standing room in the aisles, which are24 ins. wide. The seats are 34 ins. long and are upholstered inspring cane. Guides are furnished at the tops of the vestibuledoors to control their movement, and a special form of catchholds them against the ends of the body when folded. Pocketsin the wainscoating of the vestibules contain the window sashesin warm weather. The platform timbers are reinforced with September 17, 1904.)
