wires. Straight under-running section insulators are fitted at eachhalf-mile section, and the feeders are connected to the line atthese points. The connecting cable between the section andfeeder pillars and the line is 61-20s, insulated with, pure andvulcanized rubber, lead covered and double braided, and is car-ried from the pillar to special drawing-in boxes at the foot ofeach of the section poles, and thence up the inside of the pole,the pole being bushed with gun-metal bushes top and bottom.From the top bushes of the pole the cables are carried out to thetrolleys along the span or bracket, as the case may be, andserved with P. & B. tape, a copper ferrule being sweated to theend of each cable and clamped into the section insulator. In the car houses the trolley wire is carried in a pitch pinetroughing running the entire length of the shed, and suspendedfrom roof trusses by wrought-iron clips. Where thelines pass under railway bridges the trolleys are carried introughing suspended from the underside of the bridges in sucha manner that it is impossible for a passenger, even by leaning-over the car rail, to touch the live wire. Four sizes of section and feeder pillars are used.
