CENTER-POLE CONSTRUCTION ONLONDON ROAD, DERBY the rails was then flushed up solid to the same height as theupper layer of fine concrete, with a strong grout consisting oftwo parts of sharp sand and one part of Portland cement, finallyflushed off with a trowel to the exact level. Afterward, bothsides of the webs of the rails were filled up solid to the outsidesof the running treads and the guard rails by good stiff mortarcomposed of two parts of clean sand to one part of Portlandcement. The rails weigh 95 lbs. to the yard, with 101-lb. curverails, and were supplied in 45-ft. lengths. Continuous railjoints are used. Five tie bars are employed to each 45 ft. of NEW DOUBLE-DECK CAR FOR GLASGOW electrical equipment, the motors being the GE 52, with typeK-10 controller. The brakes are of the wheel, slipper and elec-tric emergency types. The line was installed by J. G. White& Company, Limited. COVERED DOUBLE-DECK CAR IN GLASGOW

The general sentiment inEngland is strongly in favor of double-deck cars, and double-deckers, although without a covered upper deck, have been usedalmost exclusively in Glasgow, practically ever since electricitywas adopted. It has been found in Glasgow that while theupper deck is popular in pleasant weather it is practicallyabandoned in wet or cold weather, and to secure a deck load inall seasons it is necessary that the top seats should be dry andprotected.
