stroke. Each engine drives a 60-kwMather & Piatt generator, by means of link leather belts. A concrete tank, 29^ ft. x 19 ft., and 7^4 ft. deep, suppliesthe feed water. The tank is fed by a pumping station situatedon the Sulby River. This building, which is of corrugated iron,contains one 4-hp vertical boiler, fitted with Galloways patentcross tubes and one double-action plunger pump with engineattached, made by Tanges. This supplies water to the tankthrough a 2-in. iron pipe. The feed water is supplied to theboiler by a donkey pump attached to the side. The car bouse is situated near the Laxey terminus, and liasaccommodation for six cars in two rows. Pits are provided forsix cars. The accumulator house was situated about 176 yds. up theline from the car house, and is a wooden building containing 364 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXIV. No. 10. 250 chloride cells. The motor equipment consisted of four25-hp motors per car; the Hopkins current-collecting gear isused instead of the ordinary trolley. There is a station at the summit of Snaefell,built of wood, and comprising waiting room,stationmasters office and lavatories. As mentioned above, the chief work of thenew company on taking over the tramwaytrom the liquidator has consisted in centraliz-ing the power supply and dispensing with someof the numerous separate generating stationswhich were in existence at that time. Newrolling stock has also been supplied, and thewhole of the line has been generally over-hauled and brought up to date.
