NEW PLANT AND EXTENSIONS The chief additions to the generating plant have been made atthe Laxey power station, where there have recently been in-stalled two boilers, two direct coupled high-tension generatingsets, two feed pumps, a surface condensing plant, one rotaryconverter, with two transformers for reducing the pressure,and the requisite switch gear for the new plant. Fig 2 showsthe general arrangement of the present power station. The boilers are of the Climax type, supplied by B. R. Row-land & Company, this style of boiler being chosen chiefly onaccount of the small amount of floor space available, and thevery simple design of the flues and chimney required for them.It was necessary to raise the roof of the boiler house in orderto accommodate them, but this was a simpler matter than ex-tending in any other direction.
