The straight passenger semi-convertible carsare 38 ft. long over crown pieces, and from endpanels over crown panels are 5 ft.; width ofcars over sheathing, 8 ft. 4 ins.; the side sillsare 4 ins. x 7^4 ns-j and end sills, 5% ins. x7^4 ins. Besides upper and under trusses,12-in. x -%-in. sill plates are included. Theinteriors are finished in cherry with birch ceil-ings. The seats are upholstered in plush, are36 ins. long, and the aisles 23^ ins. wide.These cars are seated for thirty-eight passen-gers. At one end there are twin doors, and atSPOKANE RAfl.U.W t;ie nt)K.r a sjngle door which is offset to give 224 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXIII. No. 6. ample space for the toilet room in the corner. Provision ismade for passing from one car to another (when operated intrains, which is the intention) by removing panels from thecenters of the dashers. Single steps are used, their heightbeing 17% ins. from the rail head, and 14 ins. from step toplatform.

COMBINATION PASSENGER AND BAGGAGE CAE ON COEUK SPOKANE RAILWAY The combination passenger and baggage cars are 39 ft. 4 ins.over crown pieces, and are intended to run in one direction.They are equipped with cow-catchers of standard type. Thebaggage compartment at the forward end includes the motor-mans cab. These cars are of the same width as the straightpassenger cars, and their sills are of the same dimensions. Thepassenger compartment seats thirty passengers, and foldingseats are placed against the sides of the baggage compartmentfor the use of smokers. The toilet room is located in the pas-senger compartment next the partition. These and the straightpassenger cars are of the Brill patented semi-convertible type. The baggage and express cars are very strongly constructed,as they are expected to carry heavy loads. The side sills are5^4 ins- x 7V% iis., and are substantially trussed.
