a five-minuteservice is maintained. About fifteen minutes are required togo from the center of the city to the bridges across the St.John. No advertising is displayed in the cars. Taken as a whole, the street railway situation in St. Johnsuggests immediate expansion and improvements, and as thecity itself is an important railroad terminus, with the excellentharbor facilities and enjoying an important commercial posi-tion. The officers of the St. John Railway Company are: James Ross, of Montreal, i)resideiU ; J. M. Ivobinson, of St. John, vice-president, and M. Neilson, secretary and treasurer. The activemanagement is carried on by Mr. Neilson, to whose courtesythis paper is indebted for most of the aljove information. — TROLLEY TRIPS FOR WHIST PARTY The interurban lines established by electric railway com-panies in many parts of the country have done much to pro-mote good fellowship between residents of nearby towns alongthese routes, and they have been utilized for theater parties.

WHTST TARTY ON AN INTERURBAN CAR excursions and other pleasure trips. One form of recreationthat promises to grow popular in the West is a trip on a parlorcar into the country by whist clubs. The accompanying cutillustrates an expedition of this kind, showing a whist partygiven on one of the handsome interurban cars running betweenOshkosh and Neenah, Wis., over the line operated by the Win-nebago Traction Company. The car was tastefully decoratedwith flags and bunting, the floor between the seats and in theaisle was covered with rugs, and a profusion of sofa cushionsgave the car a very cozy appearance. The party consisted of twenty-four ladies, who engaged in adelightful game of whist. The time consumed in making thetrip and side tracking, where refreshments were served, wasabout four hours. Buffet lunch was served from the expresscompartment of the car. Hot coffee was served from the rearvestibule, where waiters in white were in attendance. Cardtables were provided for by using heavy
