There are also two standard ten-bench open cars withclosed ends, built by the same company, fin-ished in white ash, with seats of white maple,ceilings of white birch, curtains of duplexduck running to the floor, grab handles of ash,and all trimmings of solid bronze highly pol-ished. These cars arp mounted on Brill E-21trucks. One 30-ft. box-freight car of 25 tons capac-ity, with Laconia Diamond double trucks,and four General Electric 67-motors is nowin service. This car has Christensen con-tinuous air brakes, and is fitted to operate thebrakes on ten freight cars, which it can pull atone time. The company has under considera-tion the building of a 350-hp electric locomo-tive, which will be used when the freight ser-vice exceeds the capacity of the box car nowemployed. 2500-GAL. SUMMER CAR 28 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. y -y J (Vol. XXI. No. i. of this car over the end sills is i6 ft., and the width overthe outside sills 6 ft. 10 ins. It is mounted on a Brill No. 7truck, equipped with two General Electric 54-motors. Thiscar carries a steel tank 6 ft. 6 ins. in diameter and 10 ft. long.The trolley board is fixed to the top of the tank. The runninggear consists of a solid forged frame four-wheel truck. Thishas double journal springs at each box, which carry the frameof the truck. Upon the truck frame are eight other spiralsprings carrying the body of the car. The sprinkling headshave no holes or perforations to clog. This part of the ap-paratus consists of a cone carefully adjusted in the mouth ofthe discharge pipe, which forms a spray nozzle, having a smallcircular opening through which the water is discharged in athin sheet of film. The 2500-gallon tank carries water enoughto sprinkle from 5 miles to 8 miles of road bed. The steel tankshave )i-ni. sides, 5-16-in.
