[edit]DescriptionThe Strausberger Eisenbahn. 3-car tram, 1992 (3198777221).jpg |
A three car double ended tram, northbound for Strausberg, consisting of 2 Reko triebwagen and a sandwiched trailer car on the Isolated tramway east of Berlin, route 89. The nearer motor car is no 07, with advertising for the Berliner Volksbank. The people's bank. Actually, the People's Bank is a Co-operative Bank, with an interesting history. It was created in its current form in 1999 from the Berliner Volksbank eG and the GrundkreditBank-Köpenicker Bank eG . The Koepenicker Bank had an interesting history, being a bank formerly in what became East Germany which after 1955 had a branch at 15 Karl-Marx-Strasse (appropriately) in Neukoelln in West Berlin. The GrundkreditBank had its HQ also in what became East Berlin, in Jaegerstrasse 59/60 later no 24 Jaegerstrasse. On 19. Juni 1950 the Co-operative Genossenschafts-Grundkreditbank eGmbH commenced business at Lietzenburger Straße 14 , later in Nuernburgerstr. The two latter banks had merged in 1998 The Original Berliner Volksbank had to be split into two in 1951 following the chaos of currency reform in Berlin, and the western part spread further in West Germany. The Eastern sector Berliner Volksbank had its HQ since 1952 in the Haus des Handwerks in Neustädtischen Kirchstraße which in 1975 became the USA embassy! Later at Warschauer Straße nr 7, it became a true socialist co-operative bank. However due to changes in the constituion of the DDR in 1974, when all banks had to be state owned a fudge was made and its title became Berliner Volksbank - Genossenschaftskasse für Handwerk und Gewerbe der DDR. All very complex. The WIKIPEDIA page is here for the STRAUSBERGER EISENBAHN |
