[edit]DescriptionThe Stone of the Anointing Unction (162173621).jpg |
After a late lunch, Mindy and I went back into the Old City, trying to find the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. We got really lost, which is super easy to do in the Old City because every street looks the same and they each have 3 names (the name changed each time the city was conqured by those speaking another tongue). It was getting dark and we were really discouraged (you don't want to be in the old city after dark unless you know exactly where you're going), but suddenly I heard some chanting in French. We turned the corner, and there was a huge group of elderly French people chanting a Station of the Cross (I think it was #8. So we knew we were close, which gave us the passion (no pun intended) to continue on and find the church. This stone is believed to be the place where Jesus' body was prepared for burial, it's the 13th station. People were kissing, rubbing, laying prostrate, and folding notes into the cracks. |
