Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Southwark Needle There are other views of the Needle on this site (see 'automatic clustering') but this one perhaps shows its height more clearly. The "Needle", to give it its local nickname, is officially known as the Southwark Gate, and was built from Portland stone as a "Millennium monument" allegedly representing one of the spikes that adorned the gate of the old London Bridge on which the head of a traitor would have been impaled.
